Cynthia Deniau is a mixed media glass artist working with various metals and kiln formed glass. This type of work is called "kiln forming” and/or “warm glass." It is the process of shaping or fusing glass in a kiln using heat and gravity. To create her fish, each piece of glass is hand cut and formed from large sheets, decorated with liquid glass frit (ground up glass mixed with a binding agent), dichroic glass (a complex glass made up of 30 layers of quartz crystal) and enamel paints, and then fired in a kiln to 1450° F to melt together and become one single piece. Her exquisite use of color and comical flair of subject matter is what sets her work apart in the world of glass art. Cynthia has made many different designs over the years but has settled into the world of fish. Her steel wrapped fish have their big round eyes that are easy to spot. Each one is unique and is signed on the back with the SLG marking.
