David Lotton

David Lotton is a self-taught glass artist who has been creating distinctive, one-of-a-kind glass works since establishing his own studio in 1978. Based in the Midwest, Lotton’s career spans over four decades, marked by a deep commitment to craftsmanship, experimentation, and artistic integrity.
Lotton began working with glass at the age of ten, apprenticing in the family studio built by his father. In his early years, he expanded into stained glass before returning fully to hot glass, where he developed his own color formulas, floral patterns, and sculpting techniques. His work is inspired by the natural beauty of rural life, drawing on imagery from the rolling fields, gardens, and cattle farms of Kentucky and Indiana.
His signature pieces, including the Clematis Reflection series, Hollyhock Paperweight series, and Organic Sculptural designs, are known for their intricate layering, bold color combinations, and refined craftsmanship. Over the years, Lotton has built and operated multiple glass studios, all while innovating new techniques and adapting to the challenges of working with glass as a living, dynamic material.
Today, David works alongside his son Jeremiah Lotton, continuing the family tradition of excellence in glass. His work is held in private collections and fine galleries nationwide and is celebrated for its timeless beauty, technical mastery, and connection to the natural world.
