Description
The elver figures prominently in Eben's personal symbology. For decades, he was all-consumed by an obsession with surfcasting. The baby eels, called elvers, and their migration upriver from the sea each spring was the indicator that striped bass season had begun.
This is not the first elver Eben has created, though it is the first in glass; he had a successful side business, at the height of his surfcasting obsession making rubber eel fishing lures.
Elver features a sculpted eel in the stem which sits atop a solid marble connecting it to the blown foot. The foot’s turned under edge allows it to be lightweight and delicate, yet also strong. The cup is a traditional pineapple-molded wine cup.
This goblet was created on March 26, 2024. It measures 8.5h x" 3.25”d. It is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and a custom-fitted handmade sapele wood box engraved with the artist’s signature.
