Description
17"l x 4"w x 5"h
flame-worked borosilicate and dichroic glass sculpture.Sinkus’ Squid series demonstrates his mastery of the flame-working technique while offering a dynamic foundation upon which to constantly reinterpret the ever-shifting appearance of these charismatic mollusks. Dichroic glass recreates bioluminescence and color-shifting chromatophores.
The larger pieces in this series diverge from pure representation. Inner Fire Squid displays a heart and gills that are implied, but not perfectly reconstructed, while the vibrant internal form stands in for those essential organs and, perhaps, the soul.
This work is included in the exhibition Beneath There is Light, on view at The Glass Station Gallery from June 6-19
