Description
7”l x 2.5”w x 2.5”h
flame-worked dichroic glass sculpture
Sinkus’ Squid series demonstrates his mastery of the flame-working technique while offering a dynamic foundation upon which to constantly reinterpret the ever-shifting appearance of these charismatic mollusks. Dichroic glass recreates bioluminescence and color-shifting chromatophores.
What is dichroic glass?
Dichroic glass (or "dichro") is a glass sheet or film that has been coated with metal oxides (often gold) to create a microns-thick layer that reflects a spectrum of color, shifting with changing light. Developed by NASA as aerospace technology, the material has been adopted by glassblowers to create mesmerizing works of art.
