The spiraling ammonite shell form, rendered in soft bone-like whites of Sinkus's signature vesicular glass, together with translucent ocean blues, evokes the feeling of an ancient marine relic shaped by time and tide. Both sculptural and contemplative, the piece explores the intersection of natural history, erosion, and the quiet beauty of the sea.
What is vesicular glass?
Vesicular glass is lava, recreated in the studio. Millions of microbubbles (created through science, not magic, though the line does blur) expand the glass into a lava rock substance much like pumice.
