Andy Koupal

Andy Koupal is a Detroit-based artist, designer, and educator with over 15 years of experience working in glass. He received his BFA in Glass and Sculpture from the Rochester Institute of Technology’s School for American Crafts in 2009 and has since worked with a range of studios and institutions, including Simon Pearce, the Corning Museum of Glass, and The Henry Ford, where he served as a production glassblower and later managed the Glass Shop from 2018 to 2021.

Koupal served as an adjunct faculty member at the College for Creative Studies from 2013 to 2022. He has also taught workshops at institutions such as the Pittsburgh Glass Center and the University of Michigan.

His work blends traditional glassblowing techniques with contemporary design. Clean lines, thoughtful forms, and a focus on everyday inspiration define both his functional and sculptural work. He describes his approach as “a melding of traditional glassmaking techniques and contemporary design,” aiming to highlight moments from the cultural landscape that are often overlooked.

Koupal’s work has been exhibited nationally, with recent shows at Habatat Galleries, The Heller Gallery, Culture Object in New York, and the Janice Charach Gallery.

He owns and operates AK Industries in Detroit, Michigan.
