Collection: Gartner Blade

Gartner/Blade Glass is the collaborative studio of Danielle Blade and Stephen Gartner. Partners since 1996, they merge traditional blown-glass techniques with innovative color applications and sculptural methods to create refined works in both blown and hot-sculpted glass.

Danielle Blade, originally from the Isle of Wight, UK, is the daughter of British glass artist Martin Evans. After an apprenticeship at Isle of Wight Glass, she moved to the U.S. in 1985 and studied with notable American and European glass artists. Stephen Gartner was born in 1964 in Phoenix, Arizona, and raised near Charleston, South Carolina, with formative years spent in Naples, Italy. He began his glass career as a lampworker in 1993, creating animal figures, floral sculptures, and paperweights.

Their work is driven by a shared fascination with objects used in rituals and worship across primitive and contemporary cultures. Drawing from natural forms—bone, wood, vine, and stone—and informed by a distinct, layered color palette, their vessels and sculptures explore themes of reverence, symbolism, and transformation.

Recent series such as Amulet and Arbor mark a sculptural shift in their practice—inviting both tactile and visual engagement while retaining the symbolic, nature-inspired essence that defines their aesthetic.

Gartner and Blade create their work at their private studio in Ashley Falls, Massachusetts.
